GIS · Earth observation · Spatial data

Satellite imagery and messy field data, turned into maps people act on.

OznakaGeo is a geodata, location intelligence and Earth observation consultancy. For 25 years I have built spatial data systems and analysis for companies, water authorities, humanitarian agencies and conservation groups. Based in Valencia, working with clients worldwide.

Services

From scattered spreadsheets to decisions on a map

Most teams already have the data. It sits in Excel sheets, KMZ files and email attachments. I turn it into a spatial system that stays current, and add the satellite view where ground data runs out.

Data pipelines

GIS data pipelines

Clean, geocode and join your site lists, field surveys and KMZ files into one spatial database that updates on a schedule instead of by hand.

Remote sensing

Earth observation and change detection

Flood extent, burn severity, land-use change and damage from Sentinel-1 SAR, Sentinel-2, Landsat and night-time lights, including through cloud cover.

Risk

Risk and exposure mapping

Flood, fire and other hazard zones overlaid with your assets, properties or clients, so you can see what is exposed and how much.

Business

Location analysis for business

Site selection, coverage and catchment areas, asset and property portfolios, and field network planning built on real geography.

Water

Water management and EU directives

River basin data, flood hazard and flood risk maps, and spatial reporting under the EU Water Framework Directive and Floods Directive.

Delivery

Dashboards and recurring map products

ArcGIS Online dashboards, web maps and map series that are refreshed every week, fortnight or quarter without starting from scratch.

Sectors

Who I work with

Companies and insurers

  • Exposure of sites, properties and insured assets to flood and fire
  • Site selection, market coverage and territory planning
  • Satellite evidence for claims and damage assessment

Water authorities and the public sector

  • Water Framework Directive and Floods Directive data and reporting
  • Flood hazard and risk mapping at basin scale
  • Spatial databases that several agencies can maintain

Humanitarian and development programmes

  • Damage and needs assessment from satellite imagery
  • Operational maps and dashboards on a fixed update cycle
  • Mine action support: mapping cleared and safe areas

Conservation and environment

  • Habitat change, burn scars and degraded land
  • Environmental damage assessment
  • Monitoring protected areas over time
Selected work

Twenty-five years of maps that had to be right

Danube Delta

Water · EU directives
Need
Spatial data for EU Water Framework Directive and Floods Directive work across one of Europe's largest wetland systems.
Delivered
River basin data, mapping and flood-related spatial analysis to support directive work.

Wildfire mapping

Remote sensing
Need
Know where a fire burned and how badly, across areas too large to survey on foot.
Delivered
Burn severity maps derived from satellite imagery.

ICRC, Kyiv

Humanitarian · Damage assessment
Need
Assess war damage to land, infrastructure and habitats where field access was impossible.
Delivered
Satellite-based analysis of burn scars, degraded farmland, damaged infrastructure and destroyed habitats.

Norwegian People's Aid

Humanitarian mine action
Need
Demining teams need to know which land is cleared and where to work next.
Delivered
Maps of safe and cleared areas, used to direct mine action teams in the field.

IOM, Ukraine

Monitoring · Map products
Need
Population flow data that changes every two weeks, read by decision makers who need it at a glance.
Delivered
Redesigned recurring map products built to be refreshed on a two-week cycle.
How it works

Start small, then keep it running

  1. Free 30-minute audit

We look at the data you have, the decisions you need to make, and where a map or satellite view would change them. A limited number of slots each month.

  2. Fixed-scope build

A clear quote for the first deliverable: a cleaned database, an analysis, a dashboard or a map series.

  3. Ongoing updates

Weekly, monthly or quarterly refreshes of the same products, so the maps stay current without extra work on your side.

Roman Sizo About

Roman Sizo

I am a GIS and Earth observation specialist with more than 25 years of work in remote sensing, satellite image processing, spatial analysis, GeoAI and machine learning workflows, and geospatial infrastructure.

My career runs from EU water and flood directive work in the Danube Delta, through burn severity mapping from orbit, to geospatial analysis for the International Committee of the Red Cross in Kyiv and support for humanitarian demining with Norwegian People's Aid. Alongside that I have worked with companies such as Signify, conservation organisations such as WWF, and development contractors such as Chemonics.

OznakaGeo takes its name from the Ukrainian word ознака: a sign, an attribute, a feature. In GIS, every feature carries its attributes. The job is to make them mean something.

FAQ

Common questions

What does OznakaGeo do?

OznakaGeo is a GIS and Earth observation consultancy run by Roman Sizo in Valencia, Spain. It builds spatial data pipelines, satellite-based change detection, risk and exposure maps, location analysis and recurring dashboards for companies, insurers, water authorities, humanitarian agencies and conservation organisations.

Do you work with clients outside Spain?

Yes. Most work is remote, for clients across Europe and internationally.

Our data is in Excel and KMZ files. Can you work with that?

Yes, that is the most common starting point. I clean and geocode spreadsheets, merge KMZ and field survey data, and build a spatial database or ArcGIS Online setup that you can keep using.

Which satellite data do you use?

Mainly free and open missions: Sentinel-1 radar (SAR), which sees through cloud and at night, Sentinel-2 and Landsat optical imagery, and VIIRS night-time lights. Commercial high-resolution imagery can be added when a project needs it.

Can you help with EU Water Framework Directive or Floods Directive reporting?

Yes. I have worked on both directives, including river basin data and flood hazard and flood risk mapping, and can prepare spatial data and maps for reporting.

How is pricing set?

After a free 30-minute audit you get a fixed quote for a defined first deliverable. Ongoing updates are priced as a monthly or per-cycle retainer.
